I do door to door sales for Charter Communications. I'm not very good at it. It takes a certain kind of person to do it and be successful, and that's not me.

So, I put in my two weeks notice today. I have no job prospects lined up, and no idea what I'm going to do. All I know is I need something to the equivalent of full time at $12 per hour and I've got a month to do it, otherwise my house is at risk of foreclosure.

Happy fuckin Friday to me.

Costco. Average pay is supposedly $17 and you get benefits.

Edit: the internet says the starting pay is $11.50/hour and average pay is $21/hour.

Sometimes you need to make the tough moves to improve your life. Good on you for taking that step, and good luck on the search.

I've been in that situation before. Check out some job sites. Indeed.com, SimplyHired.com, Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, and SnagAJob.com are all pretty good for helping you find stuff. Also, a good CV and Resumé will help you out as well.

Keep at it!

Honestly, you won't regret this. I have a friend who put his two week in just under two weeks ago at a job he wasn't cut out for and didn't like. I've never seen him happier after he realized he wouldn't have to do this after the next 10 business days.

As mentioned Costco pays well but so do banks if you work at a branch.

COSTCO is reportedly a very good place to work.

Costco is just an amazing corporation altogether.

It really is. I bought an HD there and asked about returning it, no box, no receipt. No problem. Just bring it back. I love shopping there. I've never come across a grumpy employee.

Man, door to door is hardcore. Go get a car salesman job and make us all proud! I am sure there are some oppos who can give you advice on specifics and with your experience it should be no problem if you can get into it.

Costco is great for retail, if you can get hired. They are VERY hard to get a job because of all the competition!

But, good luck

I once knew a person who was a manager at Costco who used to rave about the company all the time, at first I thought he was drinking the Kool Aid but it turns out they really are a good company.

My stopgap job was RGIS. It's national so there should be one around. The job consists of counting things overnight in stores. Not glamorous, but it paid ~10 bucks an our in the early 00's with ample overtime so you should be able to hit 12 bucks average pretty easy. If you're not a shmuck you'll make lead in 3-4 months and hit ~15 per hour. They're always hiring and I've directed many people between jobs that way (some who still work part time there since it's easy supplemental income). Not many people make careers out of it, but it certainly saved my bacon before getting on a career track.

Hey buddy I worked for 2020 communications right out of highschool selling AT&T and Verizon Fiber Optics door to door.

I think your struggle has come more from the product your selling than the lack of good sales technique. I was able to hone my inner salesman in the 3 years I knocked doors. If you think about d2d sales is the best way to get sales experience. If you fuck up a pitch the next one is just a door away..

I tried applying for a salesman position at a Toyota dealership. They told me my driving record would have to be clean for 3 years to be hired on. My last ticket was April 2014.

Ouch. Maybe one of the smaller dealerships or used car places maybe would be a bit more understanding. Good luck!
